Vogue 100: A Century of Style
Manchester Art Gallery from 24 June to 30 October 2016.
Whilst on a visit to Manchester I saw the Vogue 100 exhibition, which I had missed when it was held at the National Portrait Gallery earlier this year. The exhibition celebrates a hundred years of style, design, fashion and amazing photography. Irving Penn, Norman Parkinson, David Bailey, Annie Leibovitz, Patrick Demarchelier, Nick Knight, Herb Ritts and Mario Testino are just a few of the photographers exhibited. Many famous people are captured in cutting edge fashion of the time from Marlene Dietrich to David Beckham and Lady Diana Spencer to Kate Moss.
The exhibition takes you on a journey via the many different and diverse ways of photographing the fast moving fashion world. With over 280 commissioned images dating back to 1916 you get to see an intriguing side of human nature and how our view change on what is and what is not fashionable. A lot of questions could be debated, such as our what makes something fashionable and why? Is fashion individual? If so what is unfashionable?
