One Years Of Leica Photography

100 years of Leica photography, 100 years of captivating emotive images and 100 years of great photographers.

I have been inspired by so many photographers who have used Leica cameras, including  Henri Cartier-Bresson, Elliott Erwitt, Robert Frank, Robert Capa and Tony Ray-Jones to just a few. For me a lot of these photographers have set the bench mark I aspire to. So many historic events have been documented through a Leica.

Leica – Capturing and documenting

  • Nick Út iconic yet deeply sadening images document the horrific events of the Vietnam war.
  • Robert Capa was one of the first war photographers and in 1936 he witnessed and recorded the struggles of the Spanish Civil War.
  • Alberto Korda photographed Che Guevara, one of the major figures of the Cuban Revolution. This portrait has become one of the most iconic images ever captured.

Leica – Street Photography

Street photography is one of the most notable areas of photography linked with Leica Cameras. There is a huge back catalogue of intriguing, well composed and often humours observations taken by the legendary photographers with Leica cameras. I can get totally absorbed viewing images by Henri Cartier-Bresson, Bruce Gilden, Garry Winogrand and Joel Meyerowitz. I will revisit some of these photographers in future posts.

Leica is a rare exception in the world of photography; no other manufacturer has such a depth of history and admiration from photographers. Thank you Oskar Barnack, the designer of the first Leica camera and the 35mm film format (now full frame sensors) and the bases of photography today.
